Happy Place by Emily Henry

1.0

1.5 stars

Not gonna lie, the first 15% of the book was genuinely enjoyable. The characters were introduced, we got a little bit of backstory, and each conversation revealed something about the story. I managed to read the first 8-10 chapters in about 25 minutes MAX.

And then came the great slog. Honestly if it wasn't for the fact that this is a buddy read, i would have probably taken a month to finish this book. There are multiple reasons why, but mainly,

1. The book was way too long. So much could have been cut off.

2. Unnecessary dialogue(There are whole chapters which is just talking. Unnecessary talking.)

3. Literally nothing happens in the middle. It was a chore to get through. All talking. And yet it doesn't fix anything between Harriet and Wyn.

4. Unnecessary chapters.(There's a whole chapter about boating, getting high, drunk talk etc. Also most of the chapters about the past didn't really matter.)

And 5. Too much of Harriet's inner monologue that adds absolutely NOTHING to the story. We get it, she still has feelings for Wyn. Everything reminds her of Wyn or whatever. So much of that could have been cut off.

2 stars isn't that terrible of a rating from me. The first 10-ish chapters and the last 3 or 4 chapters were okay/good hence the extra star. Though i don't think I'll ever willingly pick up another Emily Henry book in the future.

Edit: Removing another .5 stars because Parth is also the name of this senior in my tution who gave me a headache trying to understand his writing for some REALLY important notes I had to take.

Edit 2:Just came to say Sabrina is annoying to me now. I don't know why ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Still, She at least gave SOME conflict at the end of the story so I'm not gonna complain I'spose
