Hero by Michael Grant
3.0

Oh man I don't know how I feel. But overall... deflated and a bit let down is probably the best way of putting it?

For me, the GONE series is 6 books. I think that's sort of what this comes down to. This trilogy was connected to the FAYZ world and sure, some nods in it explained certain things from the original 6 books; but if I'm honest? I don't actually think this series needed to be connected to the FAYZ. Once I got past enjoying seeing my favourite characters return, realising this is the ending we've been building for them all again... kind of sucks ass, to be honest. Because in my opinion, the ending to this is inevitable?

The ending felt like a cop out, and is going to be very divisive. Some people will love that Michael Grant left it to us to figure it out; some people will hate it. I'm sort of neither, because I don't have strong feelings - because to me, it's crystal clear what the ending 'was'. When Pete figured out what was going on in LIGHT he effectively killed himself to save everyone. So I mean??

The one thing I am thinking about though is does this mean Malik is effectively the gaiaphage?? QUESTIONS

Look, I enjoyed it. I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. But this trilogy just doesn't hit home the same way the OG 6 GONE books do. And at times this book felt like walking through a muddy field to get to the point.
