My official rating is 6 out of 10 T.Vs
This is the exploration of how 7 T.V shows helped to mold an entire generation. Start with Fresh Prince of Bel Air and making its way through Glee.
I would recommend that you watch all of the shows discussed in the book before reading it as they don't hold back on any spoilers! Beyond that, this was a really telling and fun book to read! I loved getting to hear about what was going on behind the scenes, why some choices in the story and cast were made and little bits of trivia for some of my favorite T.V shows.
Thankfully, I had seen the entirety of all of the shows discussed (Fresh Prince of Bel Air, My So-called life, Dawson's Creek, Freaks and Geeks, O.C, Friday Night Lights, and Glee) except one, which I kind of regret not watching before I read this book as now I kind of want to watch it, so now I have forget the spoilers I now know. lol
I do have 2 complaints, though. The first is that, and I know this is very personal, while they reference Gilmore Girls a lot in this book, they don't actually explore Gilmore Girls and I wish they had! It's one of my all time favorite shows! The second complaint I have is that I feel like they just breezed over Glee, which I feel like was such a missed opportunity! I know Glee's not for everyone, but they did huge things for awareness and acceptance. They were among the front runners for representation in the LGBTQIA+ community, including have a trans character tackling topics such as bathrooms! They just had a way of taking on topics in a way that seemed less intimidating and I wish some of that would have been discussed more along with the blow back of some of these choices.
Other then that, I'm really happy I got the chance to read this book and I'd recommend it to anyone else who, like me, loved and identified with these shows, embracing them into who we are and who we've become!
