Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

4.0

Beautiful writing combined with solid characters, a great plotline and not to forget a true and fascinating representation of societal norms and gender roles of the 1800s.

It is one of the books which takes you on a journey and surreal experience of the Gothic and Victorian Era but at the same time makes the characters and their personalities quite relatable.

The use of various symbols across the novel definitely not only adds greater insight into Bronte's mind but also adds greater depth to the overall theme of the novel.

Unpopular Opinion: Even though I loved all the characters and their unique personalities, I didn't like the plot suggesting a romantic angle or marriage tie between Jane and the male leads. It was annoying to see Jane accept St Joh's offer due to his manipulative and passionless nature. It was even more annoying to see Jane running back to Mr Rochester as he seemed too passionate and selfish to match our female protagonist, Jane.
