Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult

5.0

Freshly finished with Small, Great, Things I realize now what all the buzz was about. Without a doubt, this is now one of my top 10 favorite books, and I’ve found a new preferred author. Jodi Picoult mentions in her Author’s Note the research and writing of this book changed her in ways her other novels haven’t and I can clearly understand why. Every white and/or privileged person could better him or herself by reading and metabolizing this book and message. Racism can be overt and ugly but can also be subtle and normalized, to the point we can’t even recognize it in ourselves or our inner circles. Do yourself a favor and read this poignant piece of fiction. Buy copies and gift them to your people, I can’t imagine anyone regretting time spent with these characters, compelling plot, and delightful story-telling. This isn’t a light or comfortable read, but it’s important and a justifiable best seller!
