Ride On by Faith Erin Hicks

3.0

As a closeted horse girl, I have to say that Ride On combines some of my favorite tropes ever: classist horse stable drama? Check. Best friends torn apart? Check. Using horse riding as a metaphor for getting over your mental barriers? Check.

However, I always wish Hicks would let their art do the talking. There’s lots of dialogue that felt really unnecessary and took away from the subtleties and nuances in the art. Hicks has such evocative panel layouts and character expressions. I wish it had more room to breathe.
