To cut a long story short (sorry, I'm in a hurry, on my lunch break) : I love this series, I love the characters of this novel, I love the story, I love how everyone interacts, I love how Eve gathers all her lame ducks around her, I love the slow burn and how characters evolve.
Mostly, what I'll remember most about the beginning of this series (A summer to remember and this here novel) is the warmth of the characters. OK, everyone is not great, there has to be a villain somewhere (and you'll love to hate Cecil), but people are not one-sided and most of all, the relationship between family members (except the "difficult" Bedwyns, of course) are not as formulaic as you'd think, it feels like they belong to a community and genuinely like/love each other. It's heart warming.
Next book is on my to-read list !
Read for the 2nd time in july 2024 : Bone-tired as I am, Iwas looking for a novel that would drag me out of a reading slump and this one worked just fine, still a delight.
