This felt like a Criminal Minds episode with a Criminal Minds Act 3 level turn towards the end. My jaw did drop, and I’m devastated to say that the seemingly random and weirdly paced b-plot (that takes away from the most intriguing character in this book) does play a role towards that ending. While I do like the build and the revelations still make sense post-twist, I would have to reread to see if the shock is truly earned. I do appreciate the exploration of the psyche and feel that this angle did elevate what would have been a typical mystery/what-happened-to-her-esque tale.
