Once a King by Erin Summerill

4.0

This book is definitely the best in a series that gradually improved. The stakes have never been higher and the intrigue has never been thicker. Aodren and Lirra made a good team, and the twists and turns that their relationship took were satisfying to read. I'm glad that they got their own spinoff book, as these two were the most interesting parts of the first two books. Aodren's character development was also fun to read. I appreciated that the author didn't end the series with the easy, happy ending--in this book, she is exploring the ramifications of dismantling power structures with a long history.
