White Rose, Black Forest

I am struggling between 3 or 3.5 stars here - I think I’ll go with 3.5
The story was engaging and romantic and exciting. I was connected with Franka from a very early point in the book.
The author is a good writer and it’s a pleasure to read his words. He captured the thoughts of the German people as they cowarded under the shadow of the gestapo.
I think the reason I’m not rating it higher is because I’ve read a bunch of historical fiction set in WWII Europe and what sets some of the great ones apart from this one is that there is usually a real person or group of people who had the integrity to stand up to the Evil of the Nazis
Maybe because this was “just a story” and and not based on a real event I judged it more harshly.
If I were to rate this book on the story and writing alone I would rate higher than if I compare with a book like Beneath a Scarlet Sky or Lilac Girls.
