Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman

medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? Yes

3.75

It makes sense that Neil Gaiman was drawn to write about Anansi, stories about stories is where he excels, and his books have always included diverse characters. And this book was enjoyable, but not his best, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it’s because he chose to focus entirely on a storytelling lineage that’s not his own. It’s complicated and I think iggnaseous’s review below did a way better job than I can of explaining it so I’ll just stop there.

Also, really had a problem with the light treatment of Spider low-key Kilgraving Rosie, a la Jessica Jones.
