this was not totally what i exected (the supernatural elements ) but that wasn't a bad thing. this was such a compelling, heavy read about so so much. about race, womanhood, motherhood, trauma, grief, love, community, shame, guilt, empathy, humanity, and so much more. some of the writing did have me a little lost at times because of the timelines hopping around in the middle of a lot of prose, but there were also so many brilliant passages that hit me like a ton of bricks. i feel like i have so much i could say about this book and at the same time, i feel speechless. you'll just have to read it for yourself.
