Only When It's Us by Chloe Liese

I really liked this book? Disclaimer that I listened to the updated audiobook and I myself am not deaf, so while I didn't see anything wrong in the updated version and mostly thought of it as good representation, I'm not here to speak for people.

I do however have a weird issue with a lot of reviews here about Willa. I think it's because Ryder is written as almost flawless in comparison, but it's a romance novel, it's part fantasy how the Hero acts in them. I did also find it a little intense, a little cheesy, and sometimes a bit too much; but the heroine in this book is kind of too much and definitely doesn't rub everyone the right way. I get why people dislike her, I do, but I actually found her to be relatable despite her flaws. Plus I felt a lot of her flaws and growth was justified in text. Yeah, it's frustrating, but this book would have felt drawn out at this length if that tension didn't exist.

Speaking of, Ryder is the sweetest, almost perfect guy 10/10. I also liked the tension and frenemy trope in this book, though the intial meeting is a bit contrived. I don't see that as a point to be taken off though, it's a romance novel so I can suspend disbelief for the meet cute.

I think there's some argument these characters are immature but....I find maturity varies a lot among people of college age, and not just on a scale but on what they're mature about and not. Again, I found Willa specifically very relatable even though a lot of people didn't like her judging on reviews.
