This book is so strong. It is doing so many things at once. Introducing new characters and worlds, maintaining old ones. It is a romance and a true fantasy and a political thriller. Cashore's handling of Lovisa and her trauma is top notch. And expert when it comes to the burden people who have been abused carry. It is just a weird engaging magical story.
