Dead Ever After
by Charlaine Harris
This book doesn't seem to match the style the rest of the books in the series. There were multiple story lines that weren't concluded well and were altogether useless. (Who was the "medium" man? And Amelia's pregnancy serves no purpose.) The pacing was also atrocious. All the sudden, everything is wrapped up within 15 pages. I think something that would have helped is sending Eric away in the previous book, so that Sookie could focus more on Sam and her feelings for him in DEA. I always enjoyed the idea of them, but it pops up out of nowhere and we don't see Sookie thinking about him romantically enough to accept their relationship.
However, I was happy to see how much Sookie has grown since book 1. She was a bit of a pushover, but now she knows what she wants. She confronts powerful vampires about how shitty they are to her. She stands up for how she wants to live her life.
This book was a mediocre ending to the series. I don't envy Harris' task to writing such an anticipated closure, but I felt this should have had several more drafts to fix the plot holes and pacing, almost like she rushing to turn this in by a deadline.
