The Lost Metal by Brandon Sanderson

2.0

1.5 Stars! What a disappointment!
Admittedly, I didn't like the first 3 books in the series, so it shouldn't be a surprise. But I had heard this had more of the bigger Cosmere incorporated into the story, so I thought that might be an improvement... unfortunately, if anything, it made it worse.

I thought the bigger Cosmere was just dumped on top of the story, crammed in where it didn't fit. I didn't get any satisfaction from the Mistborn Era 1 things (keeping it spoiler free as possible). It was lacking too many details to be interesting, but what details we did get were mostly superfluous to the current story. I don't believe any of the characters' motivations.

I also think Wayne is one of the worst characters I have ever read. I hate him. So much over-the-top absurdity with liberal amounts of gross guy behaviour and stupid jokes. And the emotional payoff of the ending is all dependent on you caring about Wayne, so that's a big nope from me.

The book also tries really hard to convince me that the characters are super smart by having them make giant logical leaps. But it never makes any sense (although of course, they are always right - eye roll) and just added to my lack of satisfaction.

Seriously, how is the average rating 4.48!? Are people really loving this? How?
