Barely anything happens. It ends on a cliffhanger. As per usual, a lot of set up for the next book. There isn’t a lot of character development. It’s just….meditations on daily life in the late 1700s, which is interesting but for 900 pages I need a more developed plot rather than a whole bunch of barely related storylines- some of which I don’t know at all why they even exist. I have been reading pretty much only this series since August, books 2-9 and I am so very relieved that I’m done.

This book could have been a peaceful end- cover a longer period of time with less unnecessary fluff, end with peace in the colonies and peace on Fraser’s Ridge after the war. No need to drag it out until the character’s dying days. Jamie and Claire are old. We all know they’re old. They’re going to die. Why do we need a tenth book to get to that point?

It seems like she’s setting it up for another spin off series about William.
