Follett manages to string sentences together really well, in a way that keeps me reading, even when I'm being cranky. And yes, some of the tech that is being over explained might have been new when this book was released (2004) but argh, it is really frustrating to read -- like being hit over the head repeatedly by the author.
What Follett did not manage to do was either interest me in the plot, or get sympathy for the characters. Either might have kept me reading, but as it was I kept wondering what the point was.
