As long as this book was, the mystery resolution felt rushed. When it revealed the ID of “The Bookkeeper,” I had to back up the CD a couple minutes to see if I’d missed something key. There was one too-obvious aspect of that ID that I’d known since early on, but the clues had been so random, my reaction was, “You’ve got to be kidding!” Up to that point, the character development had been fun and somewhat intriguing, but it really felt like a cheat. Only reason I gave this 3 stars was because of the main characters and how they progressed, even if that progression was predictable. The “reveal” deserved a 2.5. The explanation that followed was equally ridiculous. Cheat!

Why would all those criminals be so afraid of repercussions if they knew who/where The Bookkeeper was? Seemed to me that any of them — or a couple of them working together — would have had easy access and been willing to end that threat and take over the job. Seriously. No way they’d have taken the threats to their own lives without backlash, especially considering who was doing the threatening.
