I recently watched Season 1 of Longmire on NetFlix and really enjoyed it. After reading the first book, I can see the show is pretty true to the feel of the books and I must say I'm kind of glad I saw the show first.

The Cold Dish was made into a couple of episodes of the show. They actually used the murder weapon as the basis of one show and the crime was the basis of another one. I'm totally fine with that. It meant I didn't know what was going to happen in the book.

The characters of Walt Longmire and Henry Standing Bear are much more flushed out and interesting in the novel than the TV show. I will say that Lou Diamond Philips (on the show) captures the voice of Henry perfectly even if he doesn't quite capture his stature. I will also say that I prefer the Vic Moretti of the show (Katee Sackhoff is a damned fine actress), but that is because I like picturing her.

Bottom line: Good story, good characters, great setting. The story bogs down a bit at times, but I really enjoyed reading this. Will be checking out more of the series.
