Y’all- this audio was SOOOOO GOOD. I ate it UP. I have been loving the audios for the series so far (can’t wait for the finale) and this was the best yet. Stellar performances paired with Victoria’s deft romantic suspense story telling? The perfect marriage. Like bourbon and peaches. Victoria effortlessly marries sultry, tension-filled, romance with high stakes, edgy mystery and drama…let’s just say the drama is as juicy as a peach. (I know, two peach puns in two sentences, I can’t help myself). I gobbled this up in one epic sitting - I could not stop listening. The chemistry, the dynamic characters both flawed both lovable, the ominous undercurrent, the panty melting spice, and all of the heartfelt emotions and meaningful tenderness between this family and all those they love, it was such an entertaining and fulfilling reading experience. I love Lincoln and his Peach so much!
Victoria is the queen of delivering fierce, gutsy, and courageous heroines- but heroines who also have a real vulnerable softness to them too. I adored Faye. She’s ballsy in the best way, but her secrets give her a real solitude and loneliness that is both intriguing and relatable. She’s the perfect combination of stoic and brazen - and I found her so compelling. And so did Lincoln- who can’t help but be drawn to her even though she reminds him of things he’d love to forget…and she has a danger to her he doesn’t quite understand. I could not get enough of their chemistry- flawlessly created, addictively page turning, and total fire. THe heat between these two and banter is delicious- but even more so I loved the gentle way they called to each other, how they found home and peace and empathy in the other. It’s truly beautiful. I came for their heat, but I was stolen away by their heart.
And Lincoln? The hot, spectacle wearing dad with a dirty mouth? UHM YES PLEASE. He’s fiercely loyal, devoted, and protective. He’s understandably guarded at first, and I loved watching Faye rip down his walls. Lincoln deserves to be passionately loved- and he finds it in Faye. He’s the epitome of falls first and falls HARD- and I loved how he never wants to tame Faye (or his daughters)- how he wants to let them sparkle in all their glittery glory. And him as a dad? UGH MELT MY HEART.
The broader suspense plotline is surprising and has just the right darkness to make the stakes matter, and there are plenty of twists and a big bang of a finale that i didnot see coming. And the duet audio narration is PERFECTION. Megan Wicks has all the fire and sass I love about Faye, but also nails her vulnerability and brokenness. And Lee Samuels has all the growly grit of Lincoln but also his sharp wit and fierce lovingness. He brought so much intensity to the performance, and I was feral for him. Highly recommend the audio listen.
I can not wait to read the series finale- with what I know is going to be such a delicious story as our last brother finds his HEA. Living for every moment in Fiasco!
