The Brothers Lionheart
by Astrid Lindgren
Man, this book sticks with you. I really wish I had read it as a child. I read it as an adult a few years ago, and I find myself thinking about certain scenes now and then. They just pop into my mind, even years after reading it. It definitely has a bittersweet beauty to it. I decided not to read it out loud to my children at the time, but rather wait until they were old enough to read it themselves. I think it would be lovely shared, but it's one of those that can be better savored if read alone so you can stop and think every now and then.
