Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
3.5

**spoilers**
1. celaena
- like her character, but not particularly rooting for her
2. the trials/tests
- were supposed to be the point of the novel. a lot of fantasy books take the idea of a "trial story" (like a "quest story") and instead of being satisfied with that as a plot, there's always an extra drama. why can't these authors just write stories with trials and tests that are interesting enough to stand on their own?
- other than the fact that halfway through the book it feels like celaena forgot about them, they were fine. no notes but only because they were forgettable
3. the mysterious "evil"/the whole thing with duke perrington/kaltain/cain
- unnecessary plot
- never fully resolved
- lots of hints
- my theory is that the duke's ring is related to cain's ring (both obsidian & celaena notes that cain wears it all the time, even in training) which is related to the monster-dog that cain summoned and potentially kaltain's headaches (or maybe that's just the opium-addiction)
4. the love triangle
- dear lord
- no, no, honey no
- so forced....
- dorian is madly in love with celaena because she's pretty and she makes him laugh and also she's impressive and strong
- chaol is madly in love with her because she's an amazingly strong and talented assassin and also she's pretty and funny and kind-hearted
- who's the dick-head?
- good question the answer is both because altho she's efficiently in a relationship with dorian she's like "oh heyyy" with chaol
- but then she breaks it all off and everyone ends up alone
- which means it continues in the next book and honestly... no... i can't do that. let girl be single, free, and happy for a lil while
