*3.5 stars, but that's based purely on my own personal taste, it's not necessarily the type of story that I fully engage with, but I'm happy to give it 4 stars on Goodreads, as I recognise it's a really well-told story and I'm looking forward to continuing with the series.
I loved Lyra, I think she's a fabulous protagonist, proactive and clever and brave, and it is her actions and decisions that move the story along at a really good pace and keep it exciting and fast-paced - even when she is trapped in a tight spot! My favourite character was Iofur the armoured bear. I listened to the Audible audiobook and the voice actors were great, Iofur had a wonderful deep, warm voice. I love the concept of the daemons too and had fun deciding what form my own daemon would take! :)
