overall very compelling story. really difficult to listen to at times but that comes w the setting’s territory. the concept really intrigued me, being sent back in time when ur ancestor is about to die/thinks theyre going to die. really complicated dynamics between everyone, really hoped rufus would be a good person but one person sporadically showing up in ur life isnt more powerful than ur lifelong environment. in some ways he was better than his father ut imo by a small margin.
the sci fi aspect of it wasnt as explored as i expected it to be. i kept wondering why her ancestor was in so many near death situations, like what was the point of it all beyond needing to keep her lineage? why was her lineage at stake at all? why was it up to her to keep it?
other than that, great story. gave a lot of perspective on the dynamics between black and white ppl from slavery and “modern” day.
