What the actual....?!
A friend told me the second book is better, many people say it's the other way around. I didn't know what to believe... Now that I finished reading... Woah!

Okay, let's get into details.
The part where our band of Modraniht survivors is hiding in La forêt des yeux was absolutely boring and slow. Madame Labelle was trying to speak some sense into our lovebirds but they decided to act like teenagers. Nothing sparked a drop of interest in me during that part.
But once we set to action, wohooooo! Emotional roller-coaster!

I expected to see more of the blood witches, something in them is soooo appealing. Give me more! And, to be honest, the way they decided to help Lou was a bit... Forced? Like, for me, there was still a great chance for them to refuse. The reason didn't feel compelling enough. A similar thing happened with the loups garoux. But at least we had some good action-dense storyline there.

My absolute favorite character was Claud Deveraux. What's not to love?! He's quirky, he's smart and misterious. Oh my! And he's the brother of the triple goddess! How can this be... I didn't like how in the last 2 chapters of the book all characters completely ignore that they are sitting in the presence of an ancient god! Are you nuts?! Bow your heads to the Horned god!

Another favorite was the Troupe de Fortune. Absolutely marvelous. I hope there will be more of them in the last books, otherwise I will scream a lot!

Ansel... I haven't cried like that since forever. Why?! Who needed that?!

Some really good moments of the book - we get to meet more witchers and we get a close look at Reed's past. More of that, please.

As for cons - Reed and Lou's relationship is so annoying. How come our main protagonists have so little communication? The whole book is built on how they misinterpret the other one's behavior... Each of them decides what the other meant without discussing s**t. They keep pushing each other away just to go back all lovey-dovey in a matter of several sentences as if nothing much happened. Healthy relationship alert...not. Just speak to each other, FFS! I hope this relationship will be better developed in the next book.

So, in general I enjoyed the book, it had its ups and downs and it blew my mind which is just the recipe for a 5-star rating.
