What a BOOK! The romance was swoony, the smut was smutty, and the key takeaways from the book were so powerful, on top of brilliant line-by-line writing. I loved Ricki. I loved Ezra. I loved Ms. Della and Tuesday. Even Felice, I came to love so fiercely. This book is so much about love, creativity, magic, and the things that bond us through time.
I wasn't so sure about the Perennials concept because it felt like it could veer into Twilight territory anytime and could easily have been replaced by a time traveling mechanism. Yet, it somehow managed not to get too weird and I think that can be a tricky balance when it comes to infusing a smattering of magical realism into different genres. Fantasy elements tend to dominate. But this felt very grounded. I liked getting to learn more about voodoo and what that has meant to the Black community throughout history. I'll be thinking about this book for a long time!
