I’ve watched the show but have just now read this book for the first time. I appreciate Atwood’s commitment to creating a dystopia based on history and not inventing things beyond our technological capabilities. In the edition I have, she wrote the foreword in 2017, but this book was written in the 80s.
It survives decades, for sure, which is both good and bad. Does facism die? Or does it get disguised over the years? This book has readers question what they’d be willing to sacrifice for safety, or perhaps the illusion of safety.
