The Rise of Endymion
by Dan Simmons
This book was a lot! I loved the first two in this series so much, but these last two did not live up to their promise. This book should be three separate books since so much happens and each of the three major sections has a different tone to them. The book is amazing in scope and imagination and the idea of growing a biosphere in spacae is very intriguiging concept. What I found disappointing was how this book does not further explain the key concepts of the first two books, such as the human deity at war with the AI god and the search for empathy through time. Instead he re-writes some of the ideas or completely ignores those he did not want to explain further. I do like the concept of the void which binds but the ability to travel through space at a moment's notice seems completely implausible. I love this series and I did enjoy this book, it just needed some strong editing or made into three separate books.
