Alpine mountaineering is a weird, niche book topic that I could read about endlessly. There's something captivating about a quest to seek out places on earth where humans cannot survive, and learning the mindsets of those who take on the challenge. Compared to other alpinists I have read about, Viesters POV is fascinating. He takes a more conservative, grounded approach to climbing than many others, and manages to avoid succumbing to ego when others cannot. As a result, there are some genuine lessons in here that will stick with anyone--even those of us who never desire to climb Everest--long after finishing the story.
4.5 rounded down for what I thought were some slight issues with pacing, abrupt asides, and some noticeable grammar/punctuation misses.
