Book 3 of 3 of the books by Gwen Grant written about this protagonist and her family, that I loved as a child. This one is back up to the hugely entertaining value of the first book (Private - Keep Out). An excellently told slice of life of a working class large family in the late '40s, from the (epistolary) POV of a young girl, with laugh-out-loud moments as well as cringey ones (for example around issues of consent - the worst being that bloody Beauty Contest, wow).
