The purple prose in this one drew me in instantly, I have to say. It’s just so beautifully written and I was captivated.
The concept is so fascinating - doors in random places that lead to other worlds, and the people who have journeyed through them. I absolutely love this!
January is a great main character. She’s an outsider, caught between two worlds without really knowing the extent of it. She’s wilful but she just wants to do her guardian proud. She’s smart and fierce and magical. I loved her journey through this book.
I would have loved to spent more time on other worlds. It’s such a great concept and yet the surface has only been scratched here. I also didn’t fully connect with January or the story unfolding on an emotional level until the last third of the book. I definitely still enjoyed the first two thirds but the last third is where it hooked me emotionally.
