The Beacon by A.B. Shepherd

I received this book for review from the author. I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review.

The Prologue was so descriptive that I felt like I was on the boat with the characters. Just like our female character, she can’t see a lot of what’s going on so she relies on what she hears. And the reader relies on her on to tell them what is going on. We use this to form pictures in our mind.

The reader is a silent voyeur in a world where most of us will never experience what has transpired. This is a story where you will need to pay attention to because otherwise you’ll be going “huh, what just happened?” This book covers a very disturbing subject but that still doesn’t stop you – you just have to keep reading. Does everything turn out alright? Does the cycle end? It’s a great mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

This novella has a surprise ending that you won’t see coming and it will make you question everything that you’ve read. Just like the story, it will hook you and then reel you in. You will not let go until the very end. It will certainly make you a fan of the author. And make sure to read until the very end so that you can read an excerpt of her first novel Lifeboat.
