I wasn’t really sure what to expect going into this and went in kind of blind. The only thing I knew was that we were going to see some on page child SA. This is actually one of my triggers but I trusted the reviewer and dived in. While no one wants to say “yeah, this child SA was done so nicely” for very obvious reasons, I didn’t feel as overwhelmed in the snippet that had it.

As for the story itself. I loved this. The world building wasn’t an info dump and was gradually introduced without being over complicated. I’m excited to see what else we learn of the other realms in the next installment of the series.

I know that there was a lot of insta-infatuation for Declan but it wasn’t overly obnoxious so I surprisingly enjoyed their connection. She was very level-headed through it all, with the information she had.

Now, was the big ending “shocker” a shocker? No. It was obvious early on that the big reveal was exactly what it was going to be. I’m kind of wondering if this was intended though, since this is a series and we’re really only beginning to see a deeper problem within the realms.

Either way, I really enjoyed the book and can’t wait to continue.
