I read this years ago when it first came out and there was such an uproar when it was found that it was written by a man. Personally, I don't care because it is an outstanding historical fiction. While it might not be for everyone, it portrays the life of a young girl through the changing years of the 1930s and 40s of Japan. As an audio book, I found a richness to the text that I didn't catch when reading the physical book and there was a more realistic depth to the main character. I can't really say that this is a reread because in all honesty it feels as if this is the first time I have truly "read" the book.
