i...... don't even know how to process this book. it broke me and...... wow. please read it. now.

it took me forever to get through it, but i’m so thankful that i was patient with myself and kept reading it. it was so worth it. i annotated the heck out of this book and just…i know that i’ll probably annotate it heavily everytime i reread it in the future.

orual is the kind of protagonist that isn’t incredibly likable, but is exceedingly relatable.
Spoilerto the point where it hurts. she spends most of the book thinking that she’s the good one and that everything bad that’s happened is the gods faults. but….as we get further into the story, she starts to see that she’s actually selfish and sinful and a fallen human being. she starts to see how broken she is, and how so many parts of her life were her fault.

just…..read this? ok? it’s so worth it. it’s, in my opinion, the kind of book that will not leave you unchanged. it’s a hard book, and an uncomfortable read at times, but just…it’s incredible. also- if you need music recs, listen to sleeping at last during the calmer scenes, and skillet during the chaotic scenes. they’re very fitting (:

cw: language, some sex content (that’s dealt with tastefully), attempted suicide, self harm, death, murder, sacrifices, and pagan belief systems
