I really enjoyed this one. What I really liked about it was that it was unafraid to take chances and do something different. I didn't feel like I was reading stock MFA prose, which I often do when I read contemporary literary fiction. I never felt like the book was spinning its wheels, unsure of where it was going, though the narrator may be unsure of where he's going. The book itself just goes in the direction it's going to go, and the reader can either hold on and hang with it or not. It feels real, and intense, and angry, and uncomfortable.

There were a couple of things I could have done without--Avril's storyline felt a bit out of place to me, though I liked the character--but overall, I was just pleased to have stumbled across this.
