I thought the first book was fantastic but this series just keeps getting better and better. I will admit the first time I tried to read it I found the start a bit slow as others slow as others have but after taking a break and restarting it I was all in and flew through it.
Shallan really grew on me in this book. I didn’t necessarily dislike her previously but I didn’t feel for her or connect with her the way I did with Kaladin and Dalinar, and I didn’t really enjoy Veil as a character in WoR. This time however I think Shallan and her struggles with identity were one of the best parts of the story and I loved the presence of both Veil and Radiant.
That scene in the battle at Theylan where all three linked hands…..*CHEFS KISS*
I also don’t typically enjoy final battles or am pretty neutral on them but this felt like watching Infinity War or Endgame. It could get a bit chaotic and I would relisten to a couple scenes and use the chapter summaries on Coppermind keep track but that’s because I didn’t want to accidentally miss a single detail.
There were some real WTF moments I didn’t see coming as well as some moments I’d been anticipatinglike Szeth joining the main characters, I had a feeling that was going to happen from book 1 and I really look forward to see how he fits and interacts with the group . It really felt like the stakes were raised.
Lastly, fuck Moash.
