It’s not so much a night off as it is a night you get off, I’ll tell you that.

Character Impressions:

Emily Parker
A reserved and composed accountant who wants to let go of control for once in her life. She has an instant connection with Nat after their first encounter. Being an older sibling with terrible parents, she’s the one who always looks out for her younger sister. I felt those moments when she wanted to be intimate with Nat, but kept remembering her responsibility to take care of her sister.

Nat Swayne
A hot butch who works as an escort and knows how to please lines of women. The moment she meets Emily, she’s enthralled and feels a spark between them. Learning about what happened to her in her past pulled at my heartstrings. I like that she has her own dreams and wanted to pursue them for herself outside of her relationship with Emily.

Minor Characters:

Colleen: Emily’s younger sister. I like that she’s not reduced to being a cardboard cheerleader who spends all of her page-time pushing Emily to be with Nat. In fact, she’s not supportive of their relationship at first. It’s nice that she has her own problems and her own life going on, so she feels like a real person.
Deb: One of Nat’s clients, but also a friend. She’s supportive of Nat and respects her boundaries when Nat no longer wants to have a physical relationship with her.

Story Impressions:

More than just sex. I think that’s why I prefer stories by O’brien compared to most lesbian erotica. She often finds a way to mix character development and their internal conflict with sexy time.

Highlights:

  • Highlight 1: Both leads are together for 95% of the story.
  • Highlight 2: Consensual, explicit sex scenes for days.
  • Highlight 3: Characters don’t change because of love, but want to change and open themselves to love.

My Personal Tags About the Book:

  • It’s pretty insta-lovey. If you want a relationship that gets the ball rolling, you got it.
  • Mild angst
  • Butch/femme pairing
  • Mild BDSM
  • Happily-ever-after
