Perfect Little World by Kevin Wilson
4.0

Wilson is becoming one of my favorite authors. Last year I read and adored Nothing to See Here and I knew I needed more. While this was very different, I still felt that similar deep connection to the main character. Wilson certainly makes you think and feel, my two favorite hobbies.

This book explores collective parenting and the desire to do everything you can for your children. To what lengths will you go to provide your children with the best upbringing?

At the age of 17, Izzy finds herself pregnant with her teacher’s baby and totally alone. She’s determined to have the baby even if she has to do it alone. But does she have to do it alone?

Enter Dr. Grind and The Infinite Family Project. The IFP is established with the help of an eccentric billionaire and explores what happens when ten children are raised collectively without knowing who their biological parent is (until the age of 5). Izzy and her son are asked to join the project and she anxiously embarks on a journey unknown.

I adored Izzy from the moment she was introduced to us. She really was easy to love. I just wanted to hold her hand and tell her everything was going to be alright. I wanted to Mama Bear her.

The idea of collective parenting isn’t so foreign to me. We live on a street where its not rare to have a neighbors’ kid at your dinner table, to grab groceries for one another and where every holiday must be planned around 9 families. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Looking forward to discussing this with my irl book club this month.
