I adore this book so much. I love All the Light We Cannot See and now my love for Anthony Doerr’s writing style is firmly cemented. Every description is so beautiful and romantic without making the reader tired. I was wary at the start because so many perspectives and timelines can be confusing but I’m glad it didn’t dissuade me from continuing. Also, by complete accident I read this very soon after reading Babel by R.F. Kuang and I feel like they paired together beautifully with a love for languages and knowledge being such large pieces of both.

I love when you can tell that an author loves reading. Trying to keep a story alive through everything that humanity causes and endures is a cause that I suspect every reader can get behind. The power a story from centuries ago has over audiences throughout time is testament to it being something powerful, something that transcends its original context. Doerr celebrates that. I will be thinking about this one for a while.
