Fucking finally finished this pretentious funeral dirge of a book.
It's a Dutch classic, but it's huge and slow and plotless. Strange and inexplicable and unsatisfying. It reflects on a lot of topics, so it's interesting from a historical, philosophical, and theological point of view, but it's not a good story. It starts well but over the 800 pages it keeps evolving and losing its own plot again and again. Incoherent pompous nonsense.
I started it in 2019, abandoned it at 80% when I just couldn't take it anymore, then finally forced myself to finish it now, after four years. And I feel nothing.
