I really wanted to love this book, because the premise is so good and i love that it’s almost a retelling of Snow White in some ways, but this just fell flat for me. It felt like it was constantly building up to something, but the conclusion was so underwhelming that it just didn’t feel worth it. I feel like so much more could have been done with this story, and it had so much potential, but the execution was disappointing.
I did enjoy some aspects of this book. I think the author captured an insecure child’s voice very well, and you could absolutely feel the emotions behind Belle’s actions through the words! The writing was very descriptive and easy to picture the characters and settings, so I do think Mona Awad is overall a good writer for sure!
