A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

My paltry words will never do this book justice. Easily one of the best books I have ever read. Never have I read a character as well portrayed as Jude is. I truly feel like I know him and even more importantly, understand him. Set against a back-drop of the main character's horribly abusive childhood (and future readers beware: these topics are brutal to read, and very disturbing and are woven throughout) this book is an incredibly rich and vivid dive into resiliency, self-loathing, self-deception, friendship, love, courage and strength. So many epic human themes are explored and explored exquisitely. I am left haunted and aching and feeling like the characters' losses are my own.
I would also be remiss to leave out the A++ narration of this audio book. Oliver Wyman read this incredibly well, giving just enough disctinction between POV/narrator changes to make it easy to tell when a chapter switched to another's perspective and read with the perfect emotiveness. Top notch.
