High Voltage by Karen Marie Moning

4.0

I have mixed feelings here. I, unlike most of Moning's fans, really enjoyed Iced and looked forward to the next books being mostly Dani's story. I loved Mac and Barrons but felt like their stories had been concluded at least as far as them being the main focus. But then came Burned and subsequent books and, while enjoyable, were overshadowed by my disappointment over Dani being shifted to secondary status in the story. In High Voltage we don't get a look at previous events from Dani's POV but a new story set afterwards that begins with Ryodan leaving for two years.

Uuuuugggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh......

I wanted TIME with Dani's story and to me this felt too rushed. Too little Dani and Ryodan together and therefore too little emotional payoff in the end. I also felt as though the events almost could have been split up into two books. It seemed by the ending as if there may not even be any further Dani books. Or maybe that isn't true but the feeling I got from the ending was that things were wrapping up.

Despite my rant I still gave High Voltage a high review because I DID enjoy the book and I'm so glad to finally get another book focusing on Dani. I just wanted more payoff for my very long wait.
