The Shadowhunter's Codex by Cassandra Clare
3.0
The first and most important thing is this: DO NOT BUY THE E-BOOK EDITION. The hardback (and presumably the paperback too) is a stunningly beautiful object, but the e-book is a mess. Avoid at all costs.
I enjoyed this, even though it didn't answer most of the pressing worldbuilding questions (aka, worldbuilding HOLES) I have about this series; such as the issues of the Shadowhunter population and economy. And the hardcover really is beautiful, a work of art with the gorgeous illustrations by a variety of artists. The handwritten 'notes' from Clary, Jace and Simon were great fun, even if they were a total mess in the e-book - they made for a nice dose of comedy when the Codex itself was being a bit dry and serious.
I'm not sure the Codex really adds much to the series, but it was a lovely read and I'm happy to have it on my shelf.
