Ooooooh baby did I have thoughts on this… that I immediately called my sister (the only reason I read this/ finished it…) and spilled all the deets so I wont go into everything…

But…

1. Rape and SA was used to an up horrid level as a terrible plot device… like I get it happened in the time… it wasn’t uncommon… but to happen so often and not see any character development or turmoil over it (I mean Im not saying she should have turmoil but like, I’d definitely have some!! at least a little! wtf!)

2. Claire went back like 200 years… think about that… TWO. HUNDRED. YEARS. literally left everything she knew… EVERYTHING! The only reason she knew anything was because her husband, which… no regard for really… was a genealogists or what ever, a historian… it would’ve only added to the story for her to be a bit more like wtf or holy crap, etc. like show some emotion, be surprised, want to figure it out!!

3. Lastly… the freakin violence. Again… I get it, it was the 1700’s, yah I know they are kinda in a turf war situation but like to see people on the page getting mutilated, tortured, raped and sexually assaulted… not okay! trigger warnings would be super helpful here… or maybe a guide to what chapters have torture or SA or whatever, anything would be super appreciated here… to use these things as a plot device bothers me you could have it fade to black or just discuss it later or have the character ruminate on it, but it seems it was on the page and nothing or talked about and pondered not both or anything…

I def. don’t want to read more tbh. Im happy those who like it do and Im just happy its over and I can say i’ve read it with strong ✨opinions✨
