Attack of the Black Rectangles
by Amy Sarig King
20 out of 10! Seriously phenomenal!!
I seriously loved just how well she portrayed kidis, inner worlds. I think as adults it's really easy to forget. Just how sure and confident we were that we knew what was going on and that we knew ourselves. And without infantilizing kids because they're kids.
I think she also did a great job of portraying that kids know that they are kids and that they don't know everything yet and that sometimes things are hard or confusing or feel impossible. I had so much empathy for Mac and the impossible s*** he was asked to deal with. His whole story with his dad just broke me. Like that's so heavy. Also I want his grandad. Specifically to be my granddad. Just a reminder that vulnerability is brave and important and wise.
I cried so hard reading this book. I feel like it's so important and so affirming. I feel like it should be required reading..
