Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson
3.0

Captivating and a total page turner. Yet, I'm conflicted.

It hits a big soft spot I have for cryptography, goes into plenty of detail and gets a lot of subtle points right. The modern techno-fetish chapters often read pretty goofy since they are centered around and fawn over a lot of now dated mid-90's era technology. The historical fiction parts often read better and are more engaging.

There is a definite anti-feminist and generally anti-female anything strain throughout the whole book which is tedious and off-putting. Yuck.

Maybe 3.5
