Lucinda's Secret by Holly Black, Tony DiTerlizzi

4.0

This one delves into two of my favourite things this series does: references to real life mythology and folklore, and the personal issues Jared is dealing with. It’s hard to write an abandoned kid with anger issues without falling back on cliches but I feel like what this book did with Jared was done well, especially when he started inventing parallels between Arthur and his own father.

They wove in elements of Irish folklore super well with this book too, with the Pooka and the little hat tip to the legend of Oisín in Tir na nÓg. Seriously a class way of blending these great traditional folktales with the modern adventure fantasy these books do so well.
